Comments: You are looking at an excellent representation of 18th century (over 200 years old) wood carving of the Immaculate Conception (Purisima Conception) polychrome painted over gesso in the traditional estofado style. Intricate vestment design hand painting of gold in hues of red and blue. Notice the presence of the half moon. It is rare that these have survived, but the soild construction of this image has made this possible. The head was also preserved in immaculate condition with its pierced ears and perfect nose. Below its feet on the clouds are two cherubs (with large faces) guarding her. Deep and loose vestment flow indicates its 18th century timeline, but we are quite uncertain of its exact provenance. The silver resplandor/crown is not included in this sale, but placed on her for demonstration only. The earrings which are not antique are included in this sale.
