Carved Ivory Santo Nino Child Jesus

Vintage solid ivory Santo Nino, Child Jesus with welcoming hands gesture. It is 8 inches high without the base. The body and head is carved out of one piece elephant ivory and the hands are carved from separate pieces. Carvers of this type of image are descendants of Spanish colonial santeros expressed by the facial features which are so alike their colonial period counterparts. Old base is 6 inches high relief carved wood gold polychrome and gesso typical of 19th century style. Total height is 14 inches and the ivory carving alone weighs 1 lb 4 oz. and total weight including base is 2 lbs 2 oz. Halo is included in price and is made of brass. Provenance is Central Luzon area, Philippines.
